The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program changed on 1 May 2026. Here's exactly what Victoria households can claim, how to stack it with any state scheme that's still active, and how to lock in today's rate before the next federal step-down on 1 January 2027.

Victoria homeowners can claim up to $4,890 in stacked 2026 rebates for an eligible solar and battery install. That combines the federal STC rebate (STC Zone 4, worth roughly $3,000 to $4,500 on a typical system), the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate (up to about $3,700), plus the Victorian Solar Homes rebate. Solar-only installs receive a smaller amount. The 30-second check returns your exact number.
Victoria still runs the Solar Homes rebate, worth $1,400 off a solar system in 2026. The separate Solar Victoria battery loan closed in May 2025, so batteries are federal-only.
A battery pays off in Victoria when your feed-in tariff is low and you use a lot of power after dark. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate takes up to about $3,700 off the install, and the Victorian Solar Homes rebate can stack on top, which has pulled payback down to roughly 6 to 9 years for most homes. The check estimates your payback from your bill and postcode.
The federal rebates shrink on a set schedule. The STC solar rebate drops a little each January, and the Cheaper Home Batteries rebate fell on 1 May 2026 and now steps down every six months, with the next cut on 1 January 2027. State schemes can also close or run out of funding without much notice. Waiting means a smaller rebate, so today's number is the best it will be.
